Non-Disclosure Agreement: I will only disclose non-proprietary information regarding my work at High Q Technologies. All images are public knowledge.
My third co-op term during Summer 2024 was spent at High Q Technologies. The company is a biotechnology startup developing quantum-enabled instruments for chemical analysis of proteins to enable new drug discoveries. My work was focused on developing the mechanical side of the machine - both creating new systems, and adapting existing parts of previous prototypes to facilitate scaling and production. My day-to-day work consisted of designing parts for the upcoming prototype iteration. In the end I got to build the frame, and it was extremely rewarding to see my work come to life. Some of my work included:
Designing the packaging and arrangement of RF and microwave components to fit inside a standardized enclosure, minimizing signal noise and interference
Researching and procuring a linear actuator for automating a sample protection cover, and designing the appropriate mounts and cable routing. Designed homing blocks and optimized to minimize deflection using FEA, improving homing accuracy.
Design of frame components, prioritizing ease of assembly. Drafted over 75 drawings of frame components, applying appropriate GD&T callouts.
Defined appropriate baseplate thickness to support equipment using SolidWorks Simulation
Created SolidWorks PDM workflow, improving quality standards and streamlining document approval process
